Articling Student (2025-2026) – Civil Litigation

Overview:

We are looking for a highly motivated law student to article with our litigation department for the 2025-2026 cycle. We are offering a 10-month placement with a flexible start day in June, July, or August 2025.

 

We have a diverse practice which includes the following areas of law:

·       Civil and Commercial Litigation

·       Collections, Bankruptcy, and Secured Creditor Enforcement

·       Contract Disputes

·       Tort Claims including Fraud, Negligence, Defamation,
        Tortious Interference, Conversion,

·       Shareholder Disputes and Oppression Claims

·       Construction Liens

·       Estates Litigation

·       Residential and Commercial Real Estate

·       Wills and Estates

·       Business Law
 

Our firm offers articling students the opportunity to get unparalleled hands-on experience in all aspects of practicing civil litigation at a busy law firm.

 

 

 

Student responsibilities will include:


·       Drafting court documents and pleadings;

·       Attending Small Claims Court matters;

·       Working on uncontested and contested motions in the Superior
        Court of Justice, and attending Court when permitted;

·       Communicating and negotiating with opposing counsel and
         unrepresented litigants;

·       Managing client relationships, including drafting legal advice for
        counsel and regular client communications;

·       Conducting legal research and drafting legal memoranda;

·       Other legal and administrative assistance as required.

 

The successful applicants will demonstrate strong verbal and written advocacy skills, and attention to detail. We are looking for individuals with excellent time-management skills who can work well independently and as part of a team.

Role Responsibilities include,

but are not limited to:

 

  •  Ensuring all physical and electronic court filing
  • Drafting affidavits of service, demand letters and additional correspondence, including other legal documents as needed
  • Providing documents and materials on time to meet client needs, including proofreading legal documents for accuracy and completeness
  • Managing scheduling, and handling expense posting to files and billings
  • Dealing with and responding to client inquiries, and conducting follow up as required

 

Core Skills & Requirements:

Proficiency in file management and organization, including preparing statements of claims and judgements, filing writs, issuing garnishments and preparation of sheriff sale documents

 

Working knowledge of court proceedings and preparation of relevant documents, including title search, corporate search, and bankruptcy documents

·   Competency in data entry tasks with attention to accuracy and      precision

·   Extremely efficient and adept organizational skills to manage          simultaneous tasks effectively

·    Strong grammatical skills, including proofreading, attention to         detail and accuracy are a must

·    Excellent written and verbal communication, as well as                   problem solving skills

·    Knowledge and experience with ACL and GhostPractice, as           well as familiarity of litigation

·   Understands confidentiality of client information

 

Experience:

Previous working experience or co-op internship experience is an asset

Job Details:

·       Full-time (8 hour-shift)

·       Work Location: on-site 90 Eglinton Ave E., with opportunity            for hybrid after probationary period

·       Salary range $55,000-$65,000 per year (salary negotiable                and commensurate with experience)

    Job description

    Associate Lawyer - Litigation

    Youngman Law is a boutique law firm specializing in litigation, debt collection and real estate matters. We offer a warm, flexible work arrangement.

     

    We currently have an opportunity available for a dedicated, and personable lawyer to join our busy firm located in midtown Toronto, conveniently located close to the Yonge/Eglinton subway station.

    The successful candidate will possess at least two to three years of litigation experience, ideally with a focus on Creditors’ Rights law and enforcement of Judgments.

     

    The successful candidate will have experience dealing with the recovery of outstanding debt on behalf of creditors including financial institutions and leasing companies, and will have at least two years of relevant experience and be able to work both with a team and independently.

    The practice area the candidate will be joining is primarily for debtor/creditor litigation but may involve other areas of practice as well.

     

    The selected applicant will be diligent, organized and have good oral and verbal communication skills, as well as a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario. They will be responsible for contributing to

    the continued success of our well-established practice and will also demonstrate a willingness to advance the growth of the firm with networking and business development.
